Bradford 2025 is set to be an electrifying year and children at Beckfoot Priestthorpe Primary School were delighted to get involved with Grue, a fun and immersive installation experience designed by Yorkshire-based designer and artist Steve Wintercroft and produced by ARCADE.
Grue is a fantastical world, made entirely from recycled and repurposed cardboard. Our children stepped into the enchanted landscape inspired by the history and heritage of Bingley. Children created a portrait using only paper, cardboard, a ruler, pencil and glue. They experimented with cardboard to make layers, to create folds and tabs. They tested different ways to make unusual features, modifying shapes to make different expressions, they even tried drawing on hair and accessories eventually creating a wonderful set of sculptures that will go on display at Damart Mill in February. Some of our Year 3 children also had the exciting opportunity to record their voices for the sculptures they had created, bringing them fully to life. Kate Cutting, Deputy Headteacher said, ‘This was a wonderful experience. To create artwork that will be appreciated by the people of Bradford who will explore the installation, is a once in a lifetime event for our children.’
From Saturday 8th to Sunday 23rd February 2025, families can explore this wintry world built entirely from recycled materials, right in the heart of Damart Mill, Bingley. This immersive walk-through experience promises a thrilling journey filled with mystery, creativity, and fun for culture-lovers of all ages. Admission is free, although operate a pay what you can system should you wish to donate.
