One Trust Culture Day
This week we decided to extend our ‘One Trust Culture Day’ to a week, celebrating our cultures and what makes us who we are. Every afternoon this week, children have looked at our Individual Cultures, or Cultural Heritage and our National Cultures.
Our afternoons were rooted around 3 main questions;
- Who am I? – Understanding our own identity and belonging to ourselves
- Who are we? – Understanding the identity of others and belonging to our school community
- How do we live together? – Understanding the identity of those outside of our school community and belonging to the wider world.

Who am I?
In English this week, the children have been focusing on the book ‘The Same Inside’ a sweet and thoughtful collection of poems that deal sensitively with feelings, empathy, respect, courtesy, bullying, disability and responsibility. Some classes learnt their poem to perform in a assembly, others drew pictures to represent the poem. Some classes looked at the vocabulary choices and discussed the meaning of each section.

Who are we?
After children explored their individual culture, they recorded what makes them who they are on a Identity Circle. They included their values and beliefs, their likes and dislikes, things others see about them and what’s important to them as individuals.

…continued…
Expanding on ‘who are we’, everyone in school did a self portrait, bringing together that sense of belonging and school community. The pictures were wonderful and we are planning to have them displayed in school
.

How do we live together?
Children then began to think about it means to be part of our school and the wider community. They explored Bradford as a district, looking at what makes Bradford special, then they moved on to research other countries in the world.
