Early Years

Early Years have been finding out about Minibeasts and went on a Minibeast hunt.

Year 1

Year 1 have been using Scratch Jr to code and make the sprite move with their command. They used a start block, move blocks and an end block to create the algorithm. They also changed the backgrounds and experimented with different sprites.

Year 2

Year 2 have been doing observational drawing in art. We were using different teddies to look at and draw.

Year 3

Year 3 have been looking at translucent and opaque materials this week in Design Technology.

Year 4

Preparing for their biscuit making unit, Year 4 did a taste test on a variety of different biscuits.

Year 5

Year 5 have started their PE unit on basketball.  We have played a game to remind ourselves of previous learning whilst going through the rules and watching some skills videos.  This week we started building our skills around dribbling the ball in a controlled manner.  The children practised bouncing height, hand positions and speed as they tried to control the ball in one continuous movement.  Next, they practised swapping between their right and left hands whilst keeping control.

Year 6

In English, Year 6 are producing short burst writing rather than longer pieces of writing. This week they wrote a short diary entry from the perspective of a classroom object. They had to imagine what it would feel like to be that object, and what things happen to that object from time to time and turn it into a ‘day in the life of’. This example is written from the perspective of a rubber.

Accelerated Reader will allow children to read a book and then take an online quiz to test their knowledge and understanding of the text, and receive immediate feedback. Students respond to regular feedback and are motivated to improve their reading skills.
