A sad farewell to Mrs Bennett
After ten wonderful years at Beckfoot Priestthorpe, Mrs. Bennett has decided it’s time for a new chapter. She will be leaving us at the end of this academic year to take on a role in her family business. Mrs. Bennett has thoroughly enjoyed teaching and cherishes the time she has spent with all the children she’s had the privilege to teach.
We are very sad to see her go but wish her all the best in this next exciting chapter.
We will let you know about staffing for next year very soon.
Many thanks,
Mrs Gunning

Behaviour Principles
Our behaviour protocol is based on 4 principles as shown in the picture. Each week we focus on one of the behaviours we want to see to remind all of the children of our expectations. These expectations are simple and designed to ensure that lessons run smoothly and outdoor time is enjoyable for all.
Next week we are going to focus on being polite and not talking whilst an adult is talking. If a child displays unwanted behaviour they are given a verbal reminder to correct this. If the behaviour continues then they are shown a red card as a final warning. If the behaviour still does not improve, then they go to another classroom for 5 minutes. From Monday, if your child has to have 5 minutes out of class, you will receive a text message to let you know.
Please can you ask your child why they were sent to another class and then you can help us by reinforcing appropriate behaviour. The class teacher will only be in touch if they need to discuss it further as this is only for minor incidents. All serious incidents will still be dealt with by either Mrs Cutting or Mrs Gunning.

Early Years
Early Years have been finding out about People who help us.

Year 1
Mrs Bennett has had a lovely week getting to know all the children in Year 1, here is a piece of the children’s amazing handwriting.

Year 2
Year 2 began their geography topic this week which is Northern Europe. We located all countries in Northern Europe and labelled them on a blank map.

Year 3
In Year 3, our DT design brief was to include a drawbridge, battlements and a flag. These castles have hit the brief!

Year 4
This week, Year 4 have been really enjoying our class book. We can’t wait to get to the end!

Year 5
This week Year 5 have been learning about pollination and reproduction in plants. We talked about the vocabulary and then dissected our own flowers to see if we could identify any of the parts. Finally, we labelled a diagram and matched definitions to the correct scientific vocabulary. We had a great discussion around pollination and the importance of protecting our pollinating insects as they are so valuable to the health of our planet.

Year 6
Year 6 made Suffragette posters to encourage women to join the campaign.
Important learning information
We use a range of Learning Apps in school, which can also be accessed at home. Please use the links below to practice key skills.
Times Table Rockstars is an award-winning maths learning platform where children can practice their times tables like a rock star! Certificates can be achieved every Thursday for the children who have made the most progress in terms of the biggest increase in accuracy that week. We also run in school competitions.
Times Tables Rock Stars – Times Tables Rock Stars
Accelerated Reader will allow children to read a book and then take an online quiz to test their knowledge and understanding of the text, and receive immediate feedback. Students respond to regular feedback and are motivated to improve their reading skills.
Spelling Shed uses the science of spelling to teach it to pupils. Using phonics as a base and drawing upon proven approaches such as teaching morphology, etymology, and orthographic mapping, as well as teaching spelling patterns. Children are set new activities on here each week.
