Welcome to Year 5
Year 5 is a fantastic year with a range of fascinating topics and un activities for pupil’s to engage with. By the end of Year 5, our pupil’s will have learnt most of the Primary curriculum, so it is a vital year that is built upon and revisited in Year 6. In history, we look at a variety of topics including Ancient Baghdad, the Victorians and the British Empire. Geography takes us to the other side of the world to explore New Zealand and Africa, and then back to the United Kingdom to learn more about Northern Ireland. We cover many topics in science from forces, materials, and the human body to astronomy. Woven throughout the year, are a range of high quality novels including the Golden Horsemen of Baghdad by Saviour Pirotta and the Last Spell Breather by Julie Pike. Learning is developed further by visits to Cartwright Hall for an Early Islamic Civilisation workshop, Bradford Industrial Museum to learn about the rise and fall of Bradford during the Victorian Era, and a much loved trip to the incredible Alhambra Theatre to see the pantomime. Year 5 is a truly brilliant year with many fabulous learning opportunities for pupils to enjoy.
