Our Year 6’s ‘Grow a Pound’ initiative 2025
For those new to the initiative, our FOPPS team provide each child with £1 and challenge them to come up with a way of using that £1 to make more money. This year children baked cakes, made bracelets, sold popcorn, cleaned their families cars, helped at local businesses and raised an incredible £726.59! This money will be used for costumes for the Year 6 production and a final farewell meal at Valentino’s in Bingley.
Thank you to our FOPPS team, and all the parents and carers that supported this initiative.

Early Years
Early Years have been learning about plants and growing food. We have planted some cress and sunflower seeds.

Year 1
Year 1 have been learning about what plants need to grow.

Year 2
Year 2 went on a trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park this week. We had an amazing time and saw some wonderful animals. The polar bears were our favourites!

Year 3
Year 3 have been using angle measurers in maths to compare angles in shapes. They have been discussing which are greater or smaller and how they know. They have used some fantastic maths vocabulary within their discussions.

Year 4
This week in maths, we have been using number lines to round decimals to the nearest whole number.

Year 5
Year 5 had a fabulous afternoon at Beckfoot School’s sports day. We had trackside seats and cheered on some extremely fast competitors in a variety of races.

Year 6
Continuing their focus on The Suffragettes, Year 6 wrote letters from the perspective of a suffragette. They had to imagine a male loved one (dad, brother, grandfather, uncle etc.) was away at war during WW1 and explain how they are taking on the roles of men back in Britain on the home front.
Important learning information
We use a range of Learning Apps in school, which can also be accessed at home. Please use the links below to practice key skills.
Times Table Rockstars is an award-winning maths learning platform where children can practice their times tables like a rock star! Certificates can be achieved every Thursday for the children who have made the most progress in terms of the biggest increase in accuracy that week. We also run in school competitions.

Accelerated Reader will allow children to read a book and then take an online quiz to test their knowledge and understanding of the text, and receive immediate feedback. Students respond to regular feedback and are motivated to improve their reading skills.
Spelling Shed uses the science of spelling to teach it to pupils. Using phonics as a base and drawing upon proven approaches such as teaching morphology, etymology, and orthographic mapping, as well as teaching spelling patterns. Children are set new activities on here each week.
