End of Year Newsletter 22.07.2025

Some final words from Mrs Gunning
Dear Parents, carers and our wonderful pupils,
As we approach the end of another academic year, it’s a natural time to reflect on all that we’ve achieved and to look ahead to the future. Today marks the end of my 12th year here at Beckfoot Priestthorpe and I am very proud and privileged to serve the whole school community. I absolutely love being a part of our lovely school and I want to thank every single one of you for the love and support I have been shown since I returned in December. This truly is a very special place and together we will keep striving to give our children the very best start in life.
As one year draws to an end, we have already begun to think ahead to next year. We are excited about the opportunities it will bring, and we are already exploring ways to build on the successes of this year. As always, we are committed to creating a school environment where children are inspired every day, enjoy their learning, and are supported to achieve their very best.
We are incredibly proud of what our pupils and staff have achieved this year, and we are grateful for the continued support of our families and the wider school community. I wanted to say a few very big thank you’s to everyone who has helped us have another great year.
We are very lucky to have such a skilled and dedicated team of staff educating and caring for our pupils. Teachers, support staff, the admin team, site and the lunch team, all work hard in their roles in school, but above all, they care deeply for the children. Every single one of them is a valued and dedicated member of team Beckfoot Priestthorpe and I am thankful for each and every one of them. I would like to take the opportunity to also say a special thank you to Kate Cutting for all that she did in my absence. I am forever grateful for her unwavering support and can-do attitude.
This week we sadly say goodbye to Mrs Bennett who has been with us for ten years. I would like to thank her for her hard work and dedication to Beckfoot Priestthorpe and wish her all the luck in the future! We will really miss you.
The support we get from our parents is vital too. Attending events, staying up-to-date with communications, adapting to changes, keeping us informed, supporting your child with learning at home, reinforcing our messages; these are just some examples of the great impact you have. Our children have the best chance of success when we work in partnership. Thank you!
Lastly, I would like to thank our children; they are the heartbeat of our school. They are the reason we are all so invested in making Beckfoot Priestthorpe the best it can be. We have high expectations of our children, and they respond brilliantly and make us proud every day. This sentiment is particularly true of our Year 6 pupils who leave us today. Year 6, you are ready, and we wish you well in the future – you will be brilliant!
I hope that you all have a restful summer and spend some quality time with your families and loved ones.
For the pupils and parents returning to us, see you on Wednesday 3rd September when the new year begins.

Class Teacher highlights

Early Years
We have had an amazing year in Early Years and every single child has been a pleasure to teach. I am sure that all the children moving up to year 1 will be fantastic and I look forward to another brilliant year with those children staying in early years!

Year 1
One of the most special parts of this year has been story time at the end of each day. It’s been a joy to watch the children’s love for stories grow! They’ve been completely engaged in the books we’ve shared and look forward to this time with genuine excitement. It’s so important that children see reading not as a task they have to do at school, but as a doorway to adventure, new characters, and a chance to spark their imagination.

Year 2
I have really struggled to pick just one highlight of our year as they have been many, but I would say one of them has got to be when we released our butterflies. We watched the butterflies start as caterpillars and go through their life cycle. We then released the butterflies which the children absolutely loved. The smiles on their faces is what made it such a highlight!

Year 3
My highlight of the year with Year 3 this year has to be our school trip to Nell Bank. Seeing the children explore the outdoors was wonderful. Seeing them grow in confidence this year has been very special.

Year 4
It has been lovely to get to know Year 4 this year. My highlight of the year is being one of the first schools to visit the Science and Media Museum during Science Week. There were so much for us to do!

Year 5
There are so many great memories to choose from but what stands out to me the most was watching the fabulous achievements that were made during our swimming lessons. All the children either overcame their fears to earn distance badges or perfected their swimming skills further and learned some important water survival skills. Well done Year Five.

Year 6
The trip to the Junior Warrior was, for me personally, the most fun we had all year. Sunny, muddy and wet!!!
