World Mental Health Day
Today, we came together as a school to recognise World Mental Health Day, with a special focus on children’s mental health and the importance of looking after our emotional wellbeing.
Mrs Noutch did a special assembly after playtime and spoke about the power of kindness, connection, and being there for one another. All the children left the assembly to Coldplay’s famous song “Yellow” – thank you to all those children that came in today wearing a yellow accessory.
Throughout the day, pupils took part in activities to help them explore and express their feelings. All the children made yellow friendship bracelets, to celebrate the importance of friendship and showing care for those around us. It was a wonderful opportunity for children to talk, listen, and understand that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
Our ParentPay item for donations to Young Minds, a charity supporting children’s mental health, will remain open until the end of October for anyone who would still like to contribute.
Thank you for helping us continue to build a supportive and compassionate school community.

Early Years
Early Years have been reading “we’re going on a bear hunt”. We made binoculars and went on a bear hunt!

Year 1
Year 1 have been building sentences in all different ways, using whiteboards, cut and stick and unjumbling!

Year 2
This week Year 2 have been looking at Australia in geography as part of our 7 continents topic.

Year 3
Year 3 have been planning our first story. We are going to write a warning tale. This drawn plan is just one step in the process.

Year 4
This week, we were lucky enough to visit the amazing Turner Prize Exhibit at Cartwright Hall. We were amazed by all the artwork and can’t wait to see who wins the prize!

Year 5
In art, Year 5 have been exploring printing techniques. Initially, we had to sketch a building of our choice before placing a viewfinder around an interesting part of the building. We then proceeded to produce an enlarged sketch of the identified section within the viewfinder. Next, we rolled ink onto a hard surface before placing our enlarged sketch onto the ink. Finally, we then traced over the sketch with a blunt pencil to make an imprint onto the opposite side of the picture to produce our building print.

Year 6
Year 6 had a special visit from West Yorkshire fire service to discuss the potential dangers of bonfires and fireworks. They sparked a great discussion and learned how to stay safe this bonfire night.
Important learning information
We use a range of Learning Apps in school, which can also be accessed at home. Please use the links below to practice key skills.
Times Table Rockstars is an award-winning maths learning platform where children can practice their times tables like a rock star! Certificates can be achieved every Thursday for the children who have made the most progress in terms of the biggest increase in accuracy that week. We also run in school competitions.

Accelerated Reader will allow children to read a book and then take an online quiz to test their knowledge and understanding of the text, and receive immediate feedback. Students respond to regular feedback and are motivated to improve their reading skills.
Spelling Shed uses the science of spelling to teach it to pupils. Using phonics as a base and drawing upon proven approaches such as teaching morphology, etymology, and orthographic mapping, as well as teaching spelling patterns. Children are set new activities on here each week.
