School library and book-changing arrangements

We are pleased to share some updates about our new school library and book-changing arrangements.

We are excited to welcome our new librarians from Key Stage 2, who will be helping to run the library and inspire younger children. The library is now open every lunchtime, giving children more opportunities to enjoy books, explore new authors and develop a lifelong love of reading.

Library visits by year group

Early Years: Weekly visit on Thursdays

Year 1: Fortnightly visit on Fridays, starting next week
Year 2: Fortnightly visit on Mondays, starting next week

For all other year groups, there are library trays in classrooms where children can place their books whenever they would like to change them

If your child would like to change their library book during their class visit, please ensure they bring their book to school and keep it in their bag, ready to be changed.

Thank you for your continued support in encouraging reading at home – sharing books together is one of the most important ways to build confidence, imagination and a genuine love of reading.

Early Years

Early Years have been reading and retelling Whatever Next!

Year 1

Year 1 have enjoyed their marble reward of a class party this week.

Year 2

Year 2 have had a busy and exciting week! They revisited multiplication and division in maths, started our new class text ‘The Rainbow Fish’, and had lots of fun getting messy while creating sculpted clay pots in art.

Year 3

Year 3 have been learning about Indian music and creating their own rag (melody)

Year 4

This week in Science, we learnt all about the structure of our teeth, the different types of teeth we have and why they are different shapes and sizes.

Year 5

Year 5 have begun to look at stop motion in computing. Our first lesson involved looking at the origins of stop motion e.g. flip books, zoetropes and thaumatropes. The class then made there own thaumotropes (spinning stop motion toys).

Year 6

Year 6 have been learning to draw showing depth and perspective.  We began by drawing our horizon and vanishing point and then adding other guidelines to create the illusion that we could step into the picture and follow the pathway.

Pride Beyond School

We love seeing what our children are achieving beyond the school day! Whether it’s sporting success, music and dance achievements, community involvement, or personal milestones, it’s wonderful to celebrate the talents and efforts our pupils show outside of school. Please email [email protected] if you would like us to share anything on the newsletter.

Important learning information

We use a range of Learning Apps in school, which can also be accessed at home. Please use the links below to practice key skills.

Times Table Rockstars is an award-winning maths learning platform where children can practice their times tables like a rock star! Certificates can be achieved every Thursday for the children who have made the most progress in terms of the biggest increase in accuracy that week. We also run in school competitions.

Accelerated Reader will allow children to read a book and then take an online quiz to test their knowledge and understanding of the text, and receive immediate feedback. Students respond to regular feedback and are motivated to improve their reading skills.

This week’s winners are; Xander (Year 1) Harry (Year 2) Brodie (Year 3) Aeyla and Selina (Year 4) Zane (Year 5) Flynn (Year 6)
