Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. We want to make a difference. We want to create something special.

Meet James Armitage - 100 years old and part of our inter-generation programme

James Armitage (100) who lives at Wingfield Nursing Home has taken his first steps after not walking for two years due to ill health.

The nursing home and Beckfoot Priestthorpe Primary School work together as part of our inter-generation programme and residents were invited to attend Year 2's end-of-term assembly in March.

James walked into the assembly, along with other residents and was applauded by the children for his efforts.

A sign was made to celebrate the moment with pupils calling James their hero. He said: “By gum, it was as if I had known them for years, it brought tears to my eyes. I felt on top of the world. Bless them all, their parents should be proud of them".

We have been invited to celebrate James’ 101st birthday with him in June.
